My husband and I have just returned from spending a night at the Villa Trigona. We were greeted with a friendly smile, a cup of coffee and freshly baked cookies that were still warm. The villa is very rustic, in a country setting, a family owned business. Our room on the main floor was very clean and spacious. The room was warm and there were plenty of warm covers. The bed was very comfortable with a memory foam mattress. The bathroom had plenty of towels on a heated towel rack and was also a good size. We ate at the restaurant because the road is quite difficult to maneuver at night if one is attempting to avoid potholes, sharp curves and anything else out there! The meal was absolutely amazing. I was a bit concerned because of dietary restrictions and it was a fixed menu, but when I spoke to the manager, he was most amenable and said we can work around that no problem. Dinner was served at 8:00 and consisted of a 5 course meal that was absolutely fabulous. We were served a small carafe of both red and white local Sicilian wine with our courses. By the time we finished our pasta, we were full but the best was yet to come. An amazing pork roast dinner with roasted potatoes, eggplant and a salad was presented. Then there was dessert! The meal was very reasonable at 25 Euros per person. It was really nice to chat with other guests at dinner and share travel stories. We were told breakfast would be great as well and it most definitely was. Again, there was a variety of foods to choose from… different cereals, scrambled and boiled eggs, cheese, meat, fruit, yogurt, and several delicious coffeecakes, breads and croissants. Our breakfast was included. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Villa Trigona. It isn’t your typical hotel, but a worthwhile experience in a family home.
We stayed at the Villa Trigona for a week at the end of June. We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to return.
The highlights are: the building itself which is charming and full of character, its setting with views of the Sicilian countryside, the beautiful swimming pool, the very good food and most important, the friendly and helpful staff.
Our room, superior with a French balcony, was homely with old-fashioned furnishings in keeping with the building. It had an air conditioning unit, an optional insect screen on the window and a fridge. The bathroom was functional with shower and bidet and lots of hot water. There is a plentiful breakfast buffet, taken in the lovely courtyard. The food should be covered to offer more protection from flies.
The Villa is about 5 km down a country lane from the centre of the local town, Piazza Armerina, and about an hour and a half from Catania airport. A car is essential, as it is not possible to walk to the town, e.g. for a meal in the evening. However a very good set meal, including wine, is served at the Villa which is excellent value for money.
The location of Villa Trigona is ideal for visiting: the Roman Villa at Casale, the Greek ruins at Morgantina (well worth a visit) and the museum at Aidone nearby, the hill town of Enna, and Caltagirone for its ceramics.
Do choose here if you seek a relaxed, informal stay in beautiful rural surroundings. Do not choose it if you prefer sophisticated 4/5 star hotels with lots of modern facilities.
We stayed here for a night on our tour around Sicily. It is out of town and feels like you are in the depths of the country. We were made to feel welcome and shown to a nice comfortable room. The dinner in the evening was really nice and very good value. Breakfast was also excellent. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our only regret is that we could only stay for the one night.
This was my second visit and I noticed many improvements, The staff however are still the same, welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Food excellent as usual.Peaceful,calm,beautiful. Spacious a/c bedrooms. The outside area has been landscaped, especially around the pool area and there are more vines and fig trees. It is difficult to describe why I like the Villa Trigona so much, but I think it is because I feel so completely and utterly relaxed when I am there……heaven!!!! Will be back next year.
We stayed one night at Villa Trigona, a delightful family villa set in beautiful and peaceful grounds in rolling countryside close to Piazza Armerina and also the Villa Romana di Casale. The villa of the 18-century (or earlier) is full of interesting furnishings and pictures and books, and has real character. The family owners were very welcoming and friendly, as well as efficient. Our spacious bedroom and bathroom were spotless, the bed was very comfortable, the heating worked on a cold February night, the home-cooked evening meal was delicious, and the breakfast very generous. It would be good to stay longer in this relaxing setting.
