This area of Sicily is, without doubt, the perfect place for the tourist who comes close to nature and its rhythms, who wants to capture the charm of the rural world and its evolutions, who wants to know the authenticity of the products from the earth and let seduced by the best of its precious gastronomy.
The campaign of the company will surprise for the harmony of colors, varieties of trees, flowers and perfumes that envelop those who will be pleased to follow the age-old avenues of boxwood or reconstituted avenue of figs to discover among a small expanse and the other, the donkey or mule, horses, goats, hens and geese left in freedom in their environment ever, or will visit the old orchard or simply enjoy the shade of the pine forest or the beauty and quiet of querceta .
In the area of Piazza Armerina is the nature reserve Bellia Rossomanno Grottascura, extended about 20 square kilometers. This large protected area includes forests largely artificially implanted in the forestation program dating back to the early decades of the last century.
Even the most casual traveler, leaving behind the wide plains and ascending smoothly the first foothills, just passed the village of Valguarnera, perceives, especially in summer, the pleasant feeling of crossing a site environmental physically very different from the one just left .
But it is inside that the forest reveals its greatest natural treasure: vast expanses of monumental Eucalyptus (Globulus and Camaldulensis), suggestive, almost mystical environments between scented pine forests constituted only by Pinus pinea and Pinus halepensis, numerous cypresses common and arizonica, glades of fragrant Robinie pseudo acacia trees, colorful Cercis siliquastrum, and even the ubiquitous Ampelodesmos, the Cistus pink and white, rose hips and everything undergrowth of mosses, lichens, wildflowers and mushrooms of all kinds.
The different environments are home to small mammals, few, harmless reptiles, several species of migratory and sedentary, a good number of birds of prey such as kestrels and buzzards. However, the most interesting aspect of the area is, perhaps, the great historical stratification of human settlements. Popular imagination has covered some of these structures of fantastic legends, in contrast with the considerations of geologists.
Whatever their origin, however, remains the indisputable huge suggestion that the same exercise of those lucky enough to visit them.
